Instant noodles have become a favorite food that is often eaten daily because of its yummy taste and extremely easy to make. It has replaced the proper healthy meals. Here we list top 10 Reasons why should we avoid instant noodles.

1. Nutrient Absorption : Noodles inhibit the absorption of nutrients for the children under 5.

2. Cancer Causing : The ingredient in the instant noodles called “Styrofoam’, Which is a cancer causing agent.

3. Miscarriage : Women who are Eating instant noodles during their pregnancy causes miscarriage, because it affect the development of a foetus.

4. Junk Food : instant noodles are enriched with full of carbohydrates,but no vitamins, fiber and minerals. This makes the instant noodles considered as a junk food.

5. Sodium : Instant noodles are power packed with high amounts of sodium. Excess consumption of sodium leads to heart disease, stroke, hypertension and kidney damage.

6. MSG : Monosodium Glutamate is used to enhance the flavour of instant noodles. People who are allergic to MSG consume it as part of their diet, then they end up suffering from headaches, facial flushing, pain, burning sensations.

7. Overweight : Eating Noodles is the leading cause of obesity. Noodles contains fat and large amounts of sodium, which causes water retention in the body and surely it leads to overweight.

8. Digestion : Instant noodles are bad for digestive system. Regular consumption of instant noodles causes irregular bowl movements and bloating.

9. Propylene Glycol : The ingredient in the instant noodles called “Propylene Glycol” which has a anti-freeze property. This ingredient is used because it prevents the noodles from drying by retaining moisture. It weakens the immune system of our body. It is easily absorbed by the body and it accumulates in the kidneys, heart and liver. It causes abnormalities and damage to those areas.

10. Metabolism : Regular consumption of instant noodles affect the body’s metabolism, because of the chemical substances like additives, coloring and preservatives inside the noodles.

Thank goodness that the authors of this BS don't write for the serious media. If they were questioned in court about their scientific knowledge of food in relation to adverse health issues then they would be laughed out of court. Their propaganda is based on quarter truths that get massaged to convey an erroneous and scare-mongering conclusion. It's true, a little knowledge is exceedingly dangerous!

I am sure whoever wrote the above has a degree in spelling as well as an opinion...That being said those noodles have no nutritional value, therefore drinking a glass of warm water does as much good. Save your 20 cents.

Styrofoam is NOT an ingredient of the noodle. The container, instant noodles are served/sold in, are made of this material.

I cannot take an article seriously that has so many grammatical errors. It leads me to believe that it is hot air from a non-professional with little or no medical knowledge. Styrofoam is the package, not the noodles. It does have way too much sodium and they are just empty carbohydrates, but then I mix peas and carrots in mine and use low sodium broth instead of the flavor package.

I did read a legitimate article on these ramen noodles done by a British University & they are coated in a waxy substance for preservative matters. Longer shelf life.

If something that is quick to make, fills you up and kids love BUT it costs R4.00 (I'm estimating) you cant seriously believe that it has any nutritious value at all, i eat them when there is no food in the house. But when i open the packet i get ready for an instant head ache and a blotted feeling. In reality if its not expensive its not healthy!

Yup! and they're not as bad as that article claims. Much better than fat loaded burgers. I add seaweed to mine and shitake mushrooms.
